Betting Sites With a Free Bonus on Registration in South Africa (October 2026)
Which South African bookmakers give you a free bet or free spins just for signing up, what the real terms are, and which "no deposit" claims do not hold up. Every offer below was checked on the operator's own site on 1 October 2026.

A free bonus on registration is the most searched-for promotion in South African betting, and the most misreported. Affiliate pages list offers that ended years ago, quote "no deposit" on packs that need one, and skip the withdrawal caps that make a R50 free bet worth considerably less than R50. This guide lists what each licensed bookmaker actually offered on its own website on 1 October 2026, with the terms that matter. Where an operator does not publish a term, we say so rather than guess.
Two things apply to every offer below. You must be 18 or over. And you will need to complete FICA verification, uploading your ID and proof of address, before any bookmaker will pay out, whatever the promotion says about playing first.
No-deposit offers: what you get for signing up
| Bookmaker | Free bet | Free spins | Key conditions | Licence |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hollywoodbets | R25 | 50 at R0.60 | R25 turned over once at odds of 5/10 or more within 24 hours; spin winnings wagered 5x; max R600 from spins, R1,200 overall | Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, plus KZN and Western Cape for specific products |
| Gbets | R50 | 50 on Gates of Olympus | Credited after account verification; R25 minimum deposit before withdrawing winnings; use within 5 days | Western Cape and Mpumalanga |
| Supabets | R50 | 100 | Winnings can only be withdrawn after a deposit; rollover, minimum odds and expiry not published on the official page | Mpumalanga |
| World Sports Betting | R25 | 100 (opt in at registration, 48-hour expiry) | FICA-approved account and R50 minimum deposit before withdrawal; earlier terms cite 5x sports wagering | Western Cape and Mpumalanga |
| Scorebet | R20 | 10 on Gates of Olympus | 3x rollover at odds of 1.65 or more; 72-hour expiry; maximum R50 withdrawable from each part | Northern Cape |
Hollywoodbets: R25 free bet plus 50 free spins
The best-known offer in the country and still live. The R25 free bet must be turned over once on bets at odds of 5/10 (decimal 1.50) or better within 24 hours of activation, and the 50 spins, valued at R30, play on the operator's own branded slots with winnings wagered five times. You can play before FICA is approved, but you cannot withdraw until it is. Our Hollywoodbets review covers the sportsbook in detail.
Gbets: R50 free bet plus 50 free spins
The largest free bet with no deposit among the offers we could verify. It is only credited once your account has been verified, and you will need to deposit at least R25 before any winnings can be withdrawn. Gbets describes the wagering as "standard", without publishing the odds or rollover on the offer page, so check the terms shown when you claim.
Supabets: R50 free bet plus 100 free spins
Supabets' welcome bundle also includes deposit matches of up to R5,000 across your first three deposits. The free bet and spins arrive with no deposit, but the official page does not state the rollover, minimum odds or expiry for the free portion, and winnings cannot be withdrawn until you have deposited. Third-party pages quote figures of 3x to 5x at 2/1 and a R999 cap; we could not confirm them.
World Sports Betting: R25 free bet plus 100 free spins
WSB splits its welcome offer into three parts: the spins, which you opt into at registration and must use within 48 hours; a R25 free bet credited automatically; and a 100% first-deposit match up to R20,000 if you opt in. Several affiliate sites still advertise a R50 free bet, which is no longer what the operator's page says.
Scorebet: R20 free bet plus 10 free spins
The smallest offer, but the most clearly documented: 3x rollover at odds of 1.65 or more, 72-hour expiry, and a maximum of R50 withdrawable from each part. Scorebet also pays a further R50 bonus once FICA documents are approved.
Offers that need a deposit
- Betway: a welcome pack of a R10 free bet, 10 free spins and 10 free rounds on its crash games. Betway's own page states that a minimum deposit is required to activate it. Sports bonuses carry 3x wagering at total odds of 1.50 or more. See our Betway review.
- YesPlay: 100% deposit match up to R3,000 from a R20 deposit, valid 7 days. No free bet without depositing.
- Sportingbet: 100% match up to R15,000 on a first deposit of R50 or more, released in ten parts as you wager 5x at minimum odds of 1.90, expiring after 60 days.
- Bet.co.za: 100% match up to R5,000, sports only, 6x wagering at minimum odds of 1.85 for singles and 2.20 for multiples, claim within 7 days of registering.
- Sunbet: 100% match up to R1,000, selected at registration, with 3x wagering at odds of 1.50 or more.
Offers we could not confirm
- 10bet: a R50 no-deposit bonus appears in the operator's blog but not on its promotions pages, which currently show a deposit match with two different caps (R3,000 and R5,000) on different pages. 10bet's standard no-deposit terms cap withdrawals at R500 and require at least one deposit.
- Playabets: the R50 sign-up bonus widely advertised by affiliates was not visible on the site on our check; the promotion URL now resolves to a deposit-match offer.
- Easybet: the homepage lists a R50 sign-up bonus but the terms pages are only served to visitors inside South Africa, so we could not verify the conditions.
LottoStar also pays a R25 registration credit and 100 free spins with no deposit, but it is a fixed-odds lottery and casino-style operator with no sportsbook, so it falls outside this list.
How to read a free bet offer
- Withdrawal cap. This is the number that decides what the offer is worth. A R50 free bet with a R50 withdrawal cap is worth, at most, R50.
- Deposit before withdrawal. "No deposit" nearly always means no deposit to receive the bonus. Most operators require one before paying out anything you win from it.
- Rollover and minimum odds. A 3x rollover at odds of 1.65 means you must stake three times the bonus on qualifying bets before the winnings become cash.
- Expiry. 24 to 72 hours is common for free bets and spins; miss it and the bonus is gone.
- Free spins value. Spins are priced per spin, typically R0.45 to R0.60. 50 spins at R0.60 is a R30 bonus, not a R50 one.
- Stake not returned. Free bets usually pay winnings only; a R25 free bet at 2.00 returns R25, not R50.

The legal position in South Africa
Online sports betting is legal when the bookmaker holds a licence from one of the nine provincial gambling boards, which is why every operator above lists a Western Cape, Gauteng, Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape, Northern Cape, North West or Limpopo licence number in its footer. Online casino games are a different matter: section 11 of the National Gambling Act prohibits interactive gambling unless authorised, no interactive licences have been issued, and the National Gambling Board's guidance is that online casino play is not permitted. The casino-style "contingency" games some bookmakers offer sit in a contested grey area that the courts have been asked to resolve.
The Remote Gambling Bill introduced in 2024 as a private member's bill did not advance, and in mid-2026 the government signalled it would bring its own bill and tighter advertising rules. As of October 2026 none of that has taken effect, so the rules above still apply. Players must be 18 or older, and bookmakers are accountable institutions under FICA, which is why identity verification is mandatory before withdrawal.
Frequently asked questions
Which betting site gives a free bonus on registration in South Africa?
Hollywoodbets, Gbets, Supabets, World Sports Betting and Scorebet currently credit a free bet and free spins without a deposit. Betway, YesPlay, Sportingbet, Bet.co.za and Sunbet require one.
Can I withdraw a no-deposit bonus?
Not the bonus itself. Winnings from it can be withdrawn after you meet the wagering terms, complete FICA, and in most cases make a first deposit, up to the operator's cap.
Do I need FICA to claim the bonus?
Usually not to claim it, always to withdraw. Hollywoodbets and Scorebet let you play before FICA is approved; Gbets credits the bonus only after verification.
Is online betting legal in South Africa?
Sports betting with a provincially licensed bookmaker is legal. Online casino games are not, and offshore casino sites offer no legal protection.
How often is this page updated?
Offers are rechecked on the operators' own sites monthly, and the month in the title reflects the last check.
